I Kissed Shara Wheeler
"Some of them have been in so deep for so long, they'll always be happier like this. Some of them are too scared, or didn't want to have that conversation with their parents. Some of them will reconcile these two side of the highway in there hearts years from now."
Long Story, Short
Teenage love is fickle and wild, so when an unlikely group of three high schoolers team up to search for their schools missing It-Girl, the drama and secrets unfold. Each of them received a kiss from the Alabama Barbie before she disappeared, leaving them ravenous to find out why through the clues she leaves behind.Tell Me About It
Who doesn't love a little bit of teen angst with a twist?
Casey McQuiston called this young adult novel an ode to the Twilight era, and you can definitely feel it as you read through the eyes of Chloe Green. Armed with eyeliner and a superiority complex, Chloe faces the many characters of Willowgrove Christian Academy in Alabama. The worst of them is blonde beauty Shara Wheeler, who leads Chloe, Shara's jock boyfriend Smith Parker, and the nosey rebel Rory on a trail laden with clues and secrets.
I know the phrase, "It's not about the destination. It's about the journey" is overused, but it is one of the best ways to describe the plot. Each chapter screams character development in a totally off-the-wall way because, well, teenagers can do some off-the-wall things. Every character had their own path but they fit together perfectly, finding their way to each other and themselves.
The mystery location of Shara Wheeler is only one of many puzzles in this book, which makes it entertaining all the way through. Even when you expect your last question to be answered, a new revelation is unraveled. I won't say it's a high-stakes, nail-biting plot, but I found myself wanting to know how it all ended anyways.
This is a great read for teens struggling with fitting in and discovering themselves. But I also think it's a great book for those that love a little bit of mystery and appreciate the nostalgia of angsty high school dramas.
